Testing for Gifted Students

Gifted Testing Why Should I Schedule Gifted Testing?

If you know your child is intelligent and want to make sure that they're being appropriately challenged in school, testing for gifted learners may be a good option. Sometimes, this is easier said than done. If you're finding that your child is breezing through their homework assignments, complaining about being bored in the classroom, or simply not challenged at school, testing for gifted students, a set of psychoeducational assessments to determine how best to help your child learn and thrive, offers insight and better understanding as you support your accelerated learner in academic settings and beyond. Keep reading to learn more about the process of testing for gifted students at Think Happy Live Healthy.

Why Should I Schedule Gifted Testing?

Gifted learners are often called “precocious” when they’re young. While many young people’s advanced learning ability is noticed and embraced, it’s not always fully understood or supported. You may want to consider scheduling gifted testing:

  • When boredom leads children to act out in class.

  • Students struggle to connect with their peers.

  • Children have behavioral issues that improve when they are engaged.

  • Kids continually show signs of boredom or inattention in class, but excel at schoolwork.

What Happens During Gifted Assessment?

Your child will go through a set of psychoeducational assessments. A therapist works with you and your child to understand where your child is cognitively. The therapist administers a number of psychological and educational assessments that help you to understand what's going on in your child's mind. After assessments are completed, you'll be able to take this information to your child's teacher, school administrators, and other stakeholders. This information allows you to work together to create an educational plan that makes sense for your child. This could be something as simple as enrichment work in addition to classroom assignments, or as complex as skipping a grade. Having a gifted child is wonderful, but it can also be stressful.
