~Ralph Waldo Emerson
As 2024 comes to a close, we are pausing to be mindful of all that has transpired over the last year. There have been ups and downs for each of us as we have navigated this year, and during this time, we have worked to support one another. We have been with our clients through challenging circumstances and processed difficult emotions and also shared in the joy when clients experienced successes and met goals. Just as our clients are striving for progress, so too is each individual therapist, and the practice as a whole. This year, THLH clientele continued to grow, we added to our team at both office locations, and shared information and resources on a variety of mental health topics. In partnership with our clients, we have had a busy year:
740 new client referrals who entered therapy
230 evaluations completed
Hired 1 Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner and 13 additional clinicians
Wrote 19 blogs
In total, our diverse team now includes 3 administrative staff, 2 psychiatric care team members, and 42 clinicians. This year, our clinical staff participated in thousands of professional development hours to help support our clients, with some of these topics including Eye Movement Densitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), and Play Therapy. Our already bustling Falls Church office has continued to remain busy. In August 2023, our Ashburn office opened and we have been pleased to see growth this past year with referrals and are looking forward to seeing this momentum continue. To be able to accommodate more clients, many of the new clinicians who came on board in 2024 are working in-person and/or virtually at the Ashburn office. Last but certainly not least, our administrative staff have worked diligently to ensure that operations continued to run smoothly this year as the practice has grown.
We have so much to be grateful for and we would not be here without the support of our clients and community. As we are busy planning for the upcoming year, we are looking at additional services that would be beneficial to provide. We appreciated the input that our clients gave and we are working on incorporating these suggestions. In 2025, expect more free content, videos from our therapists, and some tried and true tips and tricks to help our community be healthy and happy. Please stay tuned for updates.
Prior to ringing in the new year, we hope that you can take some time to acknowledge your many accomplishments. This is often easier said than done, so here are a few strategies you can utilize to help you get the most out of this gratitude exercise:
Be open-minded about what “success” looks like: This can be a great first step as you reflect on your year. While reaching a larger goal is certainly something to be celebrated and worthy of recognition, focusing on “smaller” achievements in your daily life is also a great way to realize the growth you have been making along the way in all aspects of your life. The habits that you have been working to build or the decisions you have been trying to make along the way matter.
Celebrate your accomplishments: Your job for this one is to have fun. You may already have received acknowledgement from others, however, if you have not, do not let that stop you. Have a celebration with others or treat yourself to something you have been wanting to do. It can be easy to discount efforts and say that what you did was “not enough” or think it is silly to celebrate a seemingly small accomplishment. However, recognizing these steps will go a long way in helping you feel content and motivating you to continue moving forward.
Keep track of your progress: Focusing on what we are grateful for and our accomplishments improves our well being and documenting this for ourselves can make this even more impactful. Writing in a journal, using the “notes” section or recording on your phone, or utilizing a gratitude app are a few ways to approach this. Try them out and see which method feels manageable for you.
